And a side note to that last post - it makes me especially upset to see people “taking sides” with either Emily or Wayne, because they’re probably my top 2 favorite beauty gurus :( They don’t mind that the other one disagrees with them! They don’t care! So why are people acting like this is a battle of who’s better? CAN’T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?
…and by “controversy,” I mean how everyone seems to be up in arms about different Youtube gurus having different opinions on the glove.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s some context. Sigma just released a rubber glove covered in different textures designed to help you clean your brushes. It retails at $40, and over the past few days it’s been generating a LOT of talk, including very different reviews from some popular Youtubers, including a couple of my all-time favorites, Emily Eddington (emilynoel83) and Wayne Goss (gossmakeupartist).
Their videos went up at about the same time, and Emily - who is a Sigma affiliate (but so are LOTS of people) really liked it, while Goss wasn’t a fan at all. This is totally normal. Different people like different things. Everyone has their preferences. Some people (including myself, honestly) don’t think it’s worth the money - you can get something that’ll do the same job for a fraction of the price. Some people are willing to spend the money, and that’s fine too! But somehow, people have made this into some sort of battle - attacking people who feel differently about it than they do, “siding with” different Youtubers, vowing never to watch one or another’s videos ever again…
That’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous that people are fighting like this over A RUBBER GLOVE. Like, think about it. That’s what this is, basically - a rubber glove. It’s not that serious. Why make such a big deal out of it? Whenever people get this upset over any sort of beauty product, I think it’s silly. Makeup means different things for different people - for some it’s a job, for some a hobby, for others an art form. But no matter what it is to you - it’s just makeup. Fighting over it is… well, it’s stupid. You can hate a product. That’s fine. You can love a product. That’s fine too. But viciously attacking people who don’t agree with you is not, no matter what.
I’m kind of rambling now, but basically - everybody calm down. It’s not that serious. It’s a rubber glove… Can’t we all just play nice?
My makeup looked GORGEOUS last night, and I forgot to take a picture. I AM UPSET.
Just realized I’ve hit a little milestone in follower count! Thirty followers! Wow. Considering how inconsistent I’ve been about updating this blog, that’s really impressive. Thank you all so much! I really appreciate it.
PS: I have SOOOO MANY new drugstore things to show you guys! Coming soon~
Hey there followers! Just remembered that I meant to make a little PSA. If you’ve ever been curious about black lipstick, but didn’t want to spend the money on a MAC or MUFE (like me), rejoice!
Wet n Wild just released their new Perfect Pout line of lipsticks as a part of their Fergie collection, and it includes a really lovely black called Pagan Angel. It has good pigmentation (definitely black, not a weird grey), glides on smoothly, and has surprisingly impressive staying power - it and the purple shade I bought, Ferguson Crest Cabernet, left a stain on my hand even after washing it off (I’m sure it would come off the lips fine with some makeup remover or a towelette, though). It has a nice glossy finish too. (If you want extra shine, top it with Rimmel’s Black Diva lipgloss - also good! Just not opaque.)
And at $4 a pop, it’s definitely worth a try to see if you’re into that kind of super dramatic look. I’m personally a big fan of black lipstick - maybe not for school or work, but it’s fun for going out. I found it in a WnW display at Walgreens, by the way.
Just wanted to let people know in case you wanted to give it a try. If you do try it, let me know what you think!
